A little help.
Back to your files.
Start with a file, choose the operation and keep the resulting copy.
Start in the workspace.
- Open Citrus, then choose Open workspace.
- Add files stored locally. Download online-only cloud placeholders first.
- Choose Convert, Tools or Files. A mixed selection only shows operations that fit the selection.
- Review the tool’s preview, settings and destination. Apply, Compress or Save starts the appropriate copy workflow.
- Read the per-file result and open the exported file to check it.
Conversion and editing tools create collision-safe copies. Move originals… is a separate explicit action that changes the source location. Quit from the tray before an update; closing the launcher does not exit the resident app.
Keep a file task close.
During a file drag, hold a mode key before moving or tap it while dragging. Activation begins at the normal Windows drag threshold, with no hold timer.
- Shift
- Convert — choose an output format.
- Alt
- Tools — open a focused editor.
- Ctrl
- Files — choose a file action.
Move onto a petal to highlight it. Crossing a gap or moving outside the rim keeps that choice, and outside release can accept it. Move to the neutral center, press Escape or right-click to cancel. Scroll between pages or use the nearby page arrows.
Mode keys retain Windows behavior. If they conflict with an Explorer shortcut, pause gestures in the tray or remap them in Settings. The workspace remains available without a drag gesture. Full Explorer combinations are still part of preview acceptance.
Find the right operation.
File extensions are a starting point, not a guarantee about every codec or layout. The preview includes local engines; unusual, encrypted, damaged or unsupported material can fail safely.
Images and photo editing
Still-image outputs include JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, AVIF and PDF. Supported tools include Compress, Metadata, Edit Photo, Annotate, Add BG, Crop and Redact, with established resize and rotation features retained.
Edit Photo includes Exposure, Brightness, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks, Gamma, Temperature and Tint. Compare with Original, reset individual values and save a new output. Crop has direct handles, aspect presets and pixel dimensions. Add BG offers gradients, solids, custom artwork, padding, corners, shadow and output ratios.
Animated and multipage images are outside the still-image workflow. Self-contained SVG can be rasterized; external resources are not loaded. Redaction uses manual masks; it is not automatic sensitive-content detection.
Video playback and tools
Video conversion includes MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, WMV and animated GIF, plus audio extraction. Codec support depends on the actual streams and the bundled engines, not the extension alone.
Trim Video uses direct range handles. Crop preserves the full source preview while the boundary changes. Compress, Metadata, Mute, Speed, Snapshot, Split, Redact and Resize each show a real playable preview. Previous/next controls use the source frame timestamps.
Crop/resize exports use even dimensions from 2 to 8190 pixels per axis and an SDR MP4 workflow. Video preview is not a color-critical HDR mastering tool. Surround or unavailable audio output can use silent preview while the saved audio stays unchanged. Frame preparation and source verification take time; input and handles remain independent of that work.
Audio, Channels and Bleep
Output formats include MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AIFF and WMA. Tools include compression, metadata, normalization, waveform trimming, Channels, Bleep and visualization.
Trim a range using waveform handles, audition it and apply. Channels offers Mono/Stereo, gains and channel auditions. Bleep has separate audio/range lanes, selectable ranges, Original/With Bleeps audition and Save Bleeped Copy; saving is disabled until a range exists.
Audio processing creates separate outputs. A target-size request can fail if the requested size cannot be reached without violating the chosen format or media properties.
PDF, Office, EPUB and OCR
PDF tools include thumbnails, page selection, ordering, rotation, duplication/removal, split/export, compression and searchable metadata. Conversion can reconstruct editable DOCX, PPTX and XLSX content from recoverable text, tables, layout and images, with OCR for scans.
Reconstruction is not exact source recovery. Complex layouts, fonts, reading order and recognition can differ; review the editable result. Encrypted PDFs are not supported. OCR results require human checking.
Local Office/EPUB conversion supports the applicable document, presentation, spreadsheet, HTML, Markdown, text and image routes. A Pages destination is labeled Pages-compatible DOCX and produces .docx; Citrus never renames DOCX output to .pages.
Subtitles, archives and file actions
Subtitle tools convert SRT/VTT or export readable text. Some format-specific timing metadata cannot survive every conversion.
Archive tools create ZIP/TAR/GZIP, repack archive members into the selected container and extract supported ZIP, TAR, GZIP and RAR sources. Compound .tar.gz archives are extracted in one operation. Unsafe paths, links, encrypted or incomplete archives are rejected.
File actions include copying files or paths, revealing a file in Explorer, opening a terminal and explicitly moving originals. Folders offer file actions rather than ordinary file conversions.
When a task will not run.
Why is an operation missing?
Available choices follow the complete selection. Try one file, confirm it is stored locally and compare it with the notes above. A folder, mixed source types or unavailable cloud file can change the available operations.
Where is my result?
Read the output path on the completed job. It may be beside the input or in your chosen destination. When a filename already exists, the new output receives a different name.
Why did compression not reach my target?
Citrus checks actual output bytes. Some targets cannot be reached while keeping the requested format, dimensions, channels and duration. Change the goal or choose a supported quality setting; the app should report an unattainable goal rather than silently change those properties.
How do I cancel?
Close an editor or options window before applying to submit no work. Use a queued/running job’s cancel control and review its result. Escape, right-click or the neutral center cancels the drag wheel. A canceled held drag stays rejected until its terminal cleanup.
Why is the wheel missing from my recording?
Live glass captures the desktop behind the wheel and excludes the app’s own glass surface to avoid feedback. Screen recording can omit it. This is a known tradeoff. Product films are labeled edited demonstrations rather than live Explorer recordings.
What belongs in a bug report?
Include the Citrus version, Windows version, operation, source type, exact message and short reproduction steps. Remove personal information and private paths. Do not post sensitive files; use a minimal nonprivate example if needed.
Report a problem on GitHub. GitHub is a separate service and an account is required to post.
